30th Anniversary of our first overall victory
Next to the fact that 37 cars of the 55 are on BBS wheels in this 77th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it is a very special edition for us. We celebrate our 30th anniversary of the first overall victory of a car equipped with BBS wheels.
In 1979 the Kremer Porsche 935 K3 n°41 driven by Ludwig-Whittington-Whittington took victory before 2 other Porsche 935. That edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was held under awful conditions on Sunday as it never stopped raining. In the end the n°41 car had a 7 laps lead on the track without chicanes. We can even say that it was a full BBS podium as the 3rd placed car was the Porsche 935 from Kremer Racing and the 2nd classed car was also a Porsche 935, with Paul Newman as driver, that used also BBS wheels in the race.
The Le Mans 24 Hours has always been a very special for BBS. Next to our 9 overall victories with Porsche, Kremer, Joest, Dauer and Jaguar, we had numerous class victories with Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette, Dodge Viper, Panoz, ... It is one of the major motorsport places in which we show our expertise so that our road customers can benefit of our latest developments when buying BBS wheels.
We are not the only ones who are celebrating an anniversary this year. Aston Martin Racing is celebrating its 50th anniversary of its first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Ferrari celebrates the 60th anniversary of its first of 9 victories. We of course congratulate both manufacturers for their anniversaries and wish them good luck for the race.
Also good luck to all our other customer teams and we hope that with our 30th Anniversary we will again be on the overall winning car.
