Hollow moulding
This technology involves hollow moulding the wheel rim's inner and outer shoulders using the flow forming method. The aluminium lips that are prepared at the casting stage are moulded into a hollow shape during flow forming before being laser-welded together in order to increase their rigidity and reduce the weight.
Mirror finish
For this special finish, which also improves the resilience of the BBS light alloy wheels, the wheels are polished with millions of tiny steel ball bearings. This not only densifies the wheel, but also hardens it and leaves it with an unbeatable shine.
Concealed weights
To keep things running smoothly and to prevent you from having to compromise on design or on driving comfort, the balancing weights are concealed behind the rim protector. The result is perfect running smoothness thanks to concealed weights that do not detract from the look of the wheel.
Two pieces
Two-piece BBS light alloy wheels consist of the rim and the wheel centre which are firmly attached to each other with titanium bolts. This is highly advantageous because, should one of the two components be damaged, it can nevertheless be detached and replaced by an expert at little expense.
Diamond cutting
When a wheel is diamond cut, the surface is painted and then lathed using an incredibly sharp and precise diamond tool. This results in a very unusual look for the wheel, with a special, intensely iridescent sparkle.
Forging technology
To get maximum material density and weight reductions out of our highly rigid and durable aluminium alloys without forgoing top performance, they undergo an elaborate forging process. As a result, they are able to handle very high levels of mechanical strain on the road.
Paintwork
BBS wheels look the part wherever they are, be it on the race track or out on the open road. Amongst other things, this is due to the surface finish they are given in one of the world's most state-of-the-art paint shops, where the perfect finishing touch is meticulously added to the finished wheel.
Flow forming
Less is more when flow forming is used to increase the density of the wheel's material structure. This is achieved by continuously rolling the rim well over a cylinder under high pressure and at a high temperature. The outcome is a wheel that needs less material to be more resilient and lighter.
Undercut
Drawing on this technology allows us to manufacture more complex shapes that are more rigid but use less material. The technology involves turning individual wheel types in such a way that no superfluous material is left in the wheel, thus keeping the wheel weight and mass down to a minimum.
Laser marking
For a futuristic finishing flourish, the wheel type is marked on the wheel by a highly precise laser beam. The result is a permanent and innovative design feature that will keep putting a smile on your face for a long time to come.
Offset cross spoke design
With this reinterpretation of the typical BBS cross spoke design, the car appears to have even more dynamic lines and effuses a sense of speed and sporty performance, even when stationary.
Cast lettering
Instead of applying decorative lettering or other design features to a finished wheel, it is far better to cast these things during one of the initial production stages. Some of the BBS wheel types are given their "Motorsport" lettering when they are first moulded in low-pressure casting, for example.
Test procedure
Before a BBS light alloy wheel goes into serial production, it is subjected to extremely stringent testing. The European Wheel Directive encompasses all of the different test criteria that a modern-day wheel is expected to fulfil. These test criteria are still not enough for us, however, and some of our own standards outstrip the legal requirements in terms of long-term usage and rigidity tenfold.
"Black Edition" finish
The perfect finishing touch for a very special wheel – the "Black Edition" CH is given its sporty look by a highly resilient, jet-black paint that is used exclusively for this type of rim.
FEM analysis
In developing all our wheels, regardless of whether they are destined for motorsport environments or for use on the road, we weigh up the necessity of every single gram in order to maintain top stability. We use complex "finite-element method" computer simulations to identify any potential weight savings in the early development stages and to iron out possible weak points.
Low-pressure casting
Low-pressure aluminium casting is a highly sophisticated technology and is our premise for the best possible quality of the finished product. Because it takes top-quality casting blanks to form the basis for BBS's sophisticated processing and to deliver BBS's unique level of driving comfort.
Rim protector
The biggest threat to a light alloy wheel is the kerb. But with our patented rim protector made of polished stainless steel, you can permanently safeguard the high-quality look of your wheels. And should the rim protector nonetheless show signs of damage further down the line, it can be replaced very easily.
Milled spokes
Driving dynamism that isn't heavy-going – milling the spokes allows us to hit just the right balance between wheel weight and stability. The parts of the wheel that do not contribute to its stability – in other words, all the unnecessary "ballast" – are removed using a special technique.
One piece
A one-piece BBS light alloy wheel combines the lightness of our special alloys and exceptional stability with no weak points. In order to guarantee that the materials and how they are processed live up to our expectations, the solid-cast wheels undergo a whole host of production checks that start straight after the wheels are cast.
Spokes moulding
Exclusive to the AIR I AI: in addition to the hollow moulding of the wheel rim's inner and outer shoulders, the spokes are also moulded. This not only helps to reduce weight but also increases driving dynamics.
