Flow Forming Technology
Improved metal alloy quality while reducing weight.
100% WEIGHT OPTIMIZED
Because the spokes are back-milled, the optimal ratio between weight and stability is achieved for a light alloy wheel. This is achieved using a special CNC milling process, where the lateral parts that hold the wheel spokes, and are not relevant for stability, are removed to reduce the weight of the wheel‘s rotating mass.”
CONCAVITY
Concavity is dependent upon on application and wheel dimensions (Standard, Concave, Deep Concave). There is no universal solution.
RIM PROTECTION
It has happened to everyone… whether it was carelessness, misjudgment, or an evasive maneuver. Hitting the curb harms the wheel and leaves ugly marks as well. The innovative stainless steel collision protection ring from the BBS Performance Line wheels guards against damage from wheels coming into contact with curbs. If the ring is damaged, it can be easily replaced by a new collision protection ring and the wheel will have a bright new look. The stainless steel collision protection ring currently comes in three colors: black, red and stainless steel.
100% X-RAY INSPECTION
Leave nothing to chance: after low pressure casting all rim blanks are examined by x-ray so as to be sure to detect any potential air pockets or surface defects. No mistakes are tolerated. Not a single wheel leaves our premises without being x-rayed!
100% HEAT TREATMENT
Unlike many Asian or other European producers, our cast (light alloy) wheels are heat treated. This is crucial for the stability of the aluminium and hence guarantees the first-rate quality and high durability of our products
100% PAINT QUALITY
In addition our environmentally-friendly paints, our paintwork processes also comply with 100% of the original equipment quality standards of the leading premium vehicle manufacturers. Furthermore, meticulous quality inspections ensure that our wheels always present an absolutely immaculate surface finish.
100% FLOW FORMING
Thanks to the flow-forming process, especially developed for the motorsport industry, our Performance Line and Forged Line wheels are weight-optimized. During Flow-Forming, the casting/ forged blank is rolled out under high pressure in the rim area. The rim well is thereby thinned out, both the density of the material and the strength are increased. The finished wheel is thereby more stable and lightweight. Flow forming uses hydraulic rollers to achieve greater density in the material structure for the rims of our light alloy wheels. The rim well of the over 300 to 350 degree centigrade hot wheel blank is kept in a continuous rotational motion under high pressure and at high temperatures, and subsequently rolled out over a cylinder in one work step. The equipment functions according to the principle of a potter's wheel to remodel the wheel blank. The desired result: a thinner wall thickness of the original rim and therefore a lighter weight wheel. In addition it provides optimally dense material structure and greater material strength.
100% DIE CASTING
To produce a really perfect and long-lasting wheel, you need to start with a top-quality casting blank. BBS uses low pressure casting to produce them. This involves pressing the aluminum alloy in a multi-part mold with up to 1,2 bars of pressure. After cooling it down to about 400 degrees Centigrade, the mold is opened and the casting blank is ready for further processing.
100% QUALITY
With FEM analysis, done according to the “finite element method”, the structural behavior characteristics of a new wheel model – for example in regard to strength or dynamics – are determined via computer and optimized during the construction phase. Using FEM analysis, the behavior of a wheel model under real operating conditions and stress can be simulated.
